CURES Optimization
The optimized CURES database has been released effective April 11, 2022.
The optimized CURES provides an improved user interface and new system features. Please note that Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser is no longer allowed to access the optimized CURES web application. Boosted information about the optimized CURES is available here.
Upon logging in to the optimized CURES for the first time, existing system users need to perform a few uncomplicated steps. These first-time login steps are described here.
New Requirements for Expanded Delegate Functionality
The optimized CURES will include expanded Delegate functionality, through which Delegates will exist authorized to direct access information in CURES.
All current Delegate associations will be disabled upon the release of the optimized CURES on April eleven, 2022. New Delegate associations will need to be established on or after Apr eleven, 2022.
The Section of Justice (DOJ) has created a Quick Reference Guide that details how to constitute and actuate a Delegate in the optimized CURES, along with questions and answers. For detailed data view the Quick Reference Guide.
DOJ has also created two sample Delegate Agreements. The first sample Delegate Understanding demonstrates an understanding betwixt one Authorizing User and one Consul. The second sample Consul Agreement demonstrates an understanding between 1 Authorizing User and multiple Delegates.

New Proposed CURES Regulations
Proposed regulations pertaining to the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation Organisation (CURES) take been posted. The proposed regulations revise and add to the CURES access and use regulations that took effect on July 1, 2020. Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation Arrangement
California's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program
CURES (Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System) is a database of Schedule II, Schedule 3, Schedule IV and Schedule 5 controlled substance prescriptions dispensed in California serving the public wellness, regulatory oversight agencies, and police enforcement. CURES is committed to the reduction of prescription drug abuse and diversion without affecting legitimate medical practice or patient intendance.
The operation of CURES complies with all applicable federal and state privacy and security laws and regulations. The controlled substances impunity history of an individual that is received by a practitioner or chemist from CURES is subject to the Confidentiality of Medical Information Act and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), including the HIPAA regulations in 45 Lawmaking of Federal Regulations parts 160 and 164.
Access to CURES is strictly express. Licensed health care practitioners and licensed pharmacists may access information in CURES only for patients nether their care. Regulatory agency officials and police enforcement officials may access information in CURES only to assist the efforts of their agencies to control the diversion and resultant abuse of controlled substances.
CURES Registration Requirements
California law (Health and Safety Code Section 11165.one) requires all California licensed health care practitioners authorized to prescribe Schedule II, Schedule III, Schedule IV and Schedule Five controlled substances to register for access to CURES upon issuance of a Drug Enforcement Assistants Controlled Substance Registration Certificate. California licensed pharmacists must register for access to CURES upon issuance of a Board of Chemist's Pharmacist License.

CURES Mandatory Consultation
Section 11165.four of the Health and Safety Code, sets forth the requirements for mandatory consultation of CURES. Please refer to your respective state licensing board for additional information regarding the CURES consultation requirement.
Controlled Substance Data Reporting
California Wellness & Safety Code section 11165(d) requires that for each prescription for a Schedule II, Schedule 3, Schedule 4, or Schedule V controlled substance, the dispensing pharmacy, dispensary, or other dispenser shall report specified dispensing data to the Department of Justice or contracted prescription data processing vendor as shortly as reasonably possible, merely non more than 1 working twenty-four hour period later the date a controlled substance is released to the patient or patient'south representative. Additionally, California Health & Condom Code section 11165(i) states veterinarians shall study impunity information as soon as reasonably possible, merely not more than than seven days afterwards the date a controlled substance is dispensed. Currently, the ASAP 2009 Version 4.1 format is accepted.

Research Requests
In accord with California Health & Safety Lawmaking section 11165(c)(two)(A) the California Section of Justice (CA DOJ) may provide CURES information to public or private entities, as approved past the CA DOJ, for educational, peer review, statistical, or research purposes, provided that the patient data, including any information that may identify the patient, is not compromised.

PRESCRIPTION FORMS (FOR PRESCRIBERS)
Obtain Security Prescription Forms
California law requires prescribers of any Schedule Two, Schedule Three, Schedule Four, and Schedule V controlled substance to obtain and use tamper-resistant prescription forms ordered simply from state-approved security printers. To order tamper-resistant prescription forms, please refer to the Canonical List of Security Prescription Printers for vendors authorized by the California Department of Justice and the vendor's contact data.
Report Lost or Stolen Prescription Forms
Reports of lost or stolen prescription forms or pads must be reported to local law enforcement and CURES. Users registered with CURES tin can electronically written report their lost or stolen prescription forms or pads online when logged into their CURES account. A constabulary enforcement agency report number is required when submitting a study of lost or stolen prescription forms to CURES.
